    New High Score: DreamHack Leipzig Grows and Wows the Gaming Community

    Three days of gaming, festivities, and events: DreamHack Leipzig 2020 had welcomed 23,300 visitors by the time it closed Sunday evening. Now in its fifth year, the gaming festival has once again made a qualitative and quantitative leap. It attracted even more gamers than last year and that for the fourth year in a row. Visitors enjoyed a packed program consisting of eight esports tournaments, high-tech products, Germany's largest LAN party and all kinds of gaming-related events. "DreamHack Leipzig 2020 has won the hearts of its visitors with a fantastic lineup. Gamers from all over Germany came to see spectacular esports and a three-day marathon of events packed with highlights. Together with its partners XMG and AB, Leipziger Messe has once again proven its ability to send ripples of enthusiasm out into the gaming community with DreamHack Leipzig. We can already hardly wait for next year," says Markus Geisenberger, Managing Director of Leipziger Messe.

    The same is apparently true for the visitors: Over 90 percent plan to return and will recommend the gaming festival to others. DreamHack Leipzig's charisma is particularly evident when you consider that one in four visitors traveled more than 300 kilometers to attend. In addition, over 500 national and international media representatives were on site to cover DreamHack Leipzig.

    First-class Esports: Eight Tournaments with Seven-Digit Prizes

    This year, DreamHack AB, licensor and partner of DreamHack Leipzig, introduced "DreamLeague Season 13: The Leipzig Major", the first major tournament with seven-digit prize money in Leipzig. The DreamHack Open in CS:GO also celebrated its comeback. Both tournaments wowed thousands of spectators in Hall 4 and millions of viewers watching from their screens at home. "We are happy to have ushered in 2020 with another great installment of DreamHack Leipzig," says Marcus Lindmark, co-CEO of DreamHack AB. "This year's festival captivated everyone with an excellent program and outstanding Esports tournaments, including the DreamLeague Season 13 and the DreamHack Open. Thanks to an outstanding collaboration with our partners Leipziger Messe and XMG, DreamHack Leipzig is a gaming festival in a class of its own and we're really excited for next year.

    This year we welcomed XMG as a new co-organizer and tournament partner. In cooperation with Ubisoft, the best teams from Germany, Austria and Switzerland battled it out in the Clash of Nations for the top title in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. "As co-organizers, we are particularly proud to have been able to inspire visitors at this year's DreamHack Leipzig with such high-caliber Esports tournaments. We are pleased that in addition to the DreamLeague and the DreamHack Open with international star gamers, the amateur tournament Clash of Nations, which we organized together with Ubisoft, was so well received that we were able to present our newest gaming laptops at this event.

    There was also a lot of enthusiasm for the other tournaments over the weekend - from the premiers of the Farming Simulator League and the European Smash Circuit (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate) to the finals of the ESBD Club Cup (League of Legends) and the Uniliga (League of Legends and Rocket League). The first Leipzig FIFA Champion was also crowned today.

    Technology, Games and Art at DreamExpo

    At DreamExpo, exhibitors and sponsors fought for attention with exciting product presentations, program highlights and events. Crowd pleasers included the Indie Arena Booth, where a total of 27 independent game developers presented new releases in conjunction with Games & XR Mitteldeutschland, as well as the International German Casemodding Championship (DCMM) and exhibitors including Samsung, LG, ZOTAC, Monster and Corsair. "We have been exhibiting at DreamHack Leipzig since it first opened its doors in 2016. We started out with just 40 square meters, and we have now more than tripled our exhibition area. Our decision to become a sponsor of the LAN was also a decisive step in the right direction, as it provides us with direct feedback on our products. DreamHack Leipzig is and remains for us a crucial element in successfully positioning ourselves in the market. We will definitely be back next year," says Torsten Väth, Specialist Event Management at Samsung, commenting on the manufacturer's participation this year.

    LG was also very satisfied with its involvement for the first time as an exhibitor at DreamHack Leipzig: We were truly and positively surprised by our first visit to DreamHack Leipzig. We encountered a smart audience, who knew their stuff and wanted specific information about our products. This means that we met 100 percent of the target group we want for our gaming brand. Our idea to involve the Eintracht Frankfurt eSports Team also worked for us. Visitors had the chance to compete against professionals, which consistently brought the crowds to our stand. And quite honestly, Expo is simply a lot of fun that way," says Benjamin Pförtsch, Area Sales Manager at LG Electronics.

    Bargain hunters were also able to get their money's worth at the DreamStore, which was run for the first time by Caseking this year. In the stream area, sponsored by Gillette, WD Black, Predator, and Knoppers, festival visitors could meet their idols - 29 streamers from all over Germany were on-site. The visual highlight was once again Saturday evening's Cosplay Contest. 30 cosplayers presented their impressive costumes, some of which are the result of months of work.

    Three Days of Celebrations at Germany's Largest LAN Party

    Hall 5 was transformed into Germany's largest LAN for 56 hours. A total of 2,080 gamers set up camp and played alongside and against one another for three days. It was not only the number of participants that set a new record: there was also a peak data throughput of 20 GBit/s. Over the three days, a total of 1,770 terrabytes of data was downloaded. The LAN participants competed for cash and non-cash prizes in over 20 tournaments on games such as League Of Legends, Rocket League, Overwatch and PUBG. In addition to Samsung the main sponsor, Nissin Foods also supported Germany's largest LAN party.

    "We are incredibly proud of the entire DreamHack-Leipzig community and the fantastic atmosphere at the gaming festival this weekend. Enthusiastic feedback from visitors shows that we are on to a winning formula with our blend of esports, exhibitors, events and the LAN party, which we will continue to refine in the future," says Stephanie Scholz, Project Director of DreamHack Leipzig.

    The next DreamHack Leipzig will take place from January 22-24 2021.
